Artist Statement ​

My work explores the intersection of abstraction and landscape, where the natural world becomes a launching point for emotional expression rather than literal representation.  Drawing inspiration from the many places I have visited around the world in different seasons, I use bold color and gestural brushwork to convey the feelings landscapes evoke rather then their exact appearance.  Each painting begins with a moment in nature - the way morning light hits a hillside, the drama of storm clouds gathering, or the peaceful stillness of a lake at dawn.  These experiences become translated though layers of acrylic paint, building texture and depth that invites close examination while maintaining impact from across the room.

 

My artistic process is both intuitive and deliberate.  I allow the painting to evolve organically while maintaining a strong compositional foundation rooted in traditional landscape principles.  This balance between spontaneity and structure creases works that feel both familiar and surprising.

Artist Biography

Brien Berberich is a contemporary artist specializing in abstraction and contemporary landscape paintings.  Working primarily in acrylics, Brien creates vibrant interpretations of natural scenes that emphasize emotional resonance over photographic accuracy.  Based in Buffalo, NY. Brien draws continuous inspiration from the local landscape while also incorporating memories and impressions from travels throughout the World.  The artist's work has been featured in numerous art shows, festivals and commission work and is held in private collections \across the country.

Brien's artistic journey began upon retirement after a career in international business leading to a distinctive style that bridges traditional landscape painting with contemporary abstract expression.  When not painting, Brien enjoys reading, travel and enjoying how nature creates such a wonderful palette from which to gain ideas in both the interpretive scenery and abstraction which exists in the world around us.
